EvapCare™-S Short Path Evaporator –
Ultra-Low Pressure Distillation for Heat-Sensitive Products

Sulzer EvapCare-S short path evaporator is engineered for the purification and concentration of extremely heat-sensitive substances and high-molecular-weight compounds. Featuring an integrated vertical condenser inside the evaporation chamber, it minimizes pressure drop and enables operation at ultra-low pressures bellow to 0.01 mbar. This design ensures maximum purity, high yields, and gentle processing for critical applications such as pharmaceuticals, food additives, cosmetics, and specialty chemicals.

Operating pressures < 0.01 mbar

Thanks to its internal condenser, the pressure drop is negligible, enabling ultra-low operating pressures

High boiling components handling

Operating at ultra-low pressure makes high-boiling components manageable at safe temperatures

 < 30sec residence time

High vacuum enables distillation of these components at much lower temperatures, using available utility

  • Unlike conventional falling film or wiped film evaporators, EvapCare-S integrates a vertical condenser inside the evaporation chamber. This ultra-short distance between the heating surface and the condenser ensures very low pressure drop, enabling operation at vacuum levels as low as 0.01 mbar (1 Pa). The result is maximum efficiency for heat-sensitive and high-boiling-point substances.

  • EvapCare-S is ideal for the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, nutraceutical, oleochemicals and specialty chemicals industries, where purity and product integrity are critical. Typical applications include the purification of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), removal of residual monomers in polymers, refining edible oils, deodorization processes, and the concentration of high-molecular-weight organic compounds.

  • Thanks to its short residence time, low liquid hold-up, and very low operating pressures, EvapCare-S minimizes thermal stress. This prevents degradation of delicate molecules, making it particularly suited for bio-based compounds, high-value chemicals, and pharmaceutical intermediates that would be damaged in conventional distillation systems.

  • EvapCare-S delivers high purity, high yield, and low energy consumption. Its short path distillation principle ensures precise separation of substances with very high boiling points. In addition, the system’s compact design eliminates liquid hold-up, reduces cleaning needs, and provides reliable performance for continuous industrial operations.

  • Sulzer supports every project with pilot plant trials and mobile test units, allowing customers to validate evaporation and distillation performance with their own feedstock. Combined with decades of expertise and thousands of industrial installations, Sulzer guarantees that EvapCare-S achieves the expected process efficiency, purity levels, and product recovery rates.
